  • Grant Screen Recording + Accessibility, then reopen.

  • SmartScreen may warn for a new app — choose More info → Run anyway.
  • That's it — Ember updates itself from then on.
macOS may say "Apple could not verify… is free of malware." That's expected — Ember is free and open-source, not paid-notarized through Apple. It's safe to open; here's how, any one works:
  1. Right-click Ember.app (or the .command file) → OpenOpen in the dialog.
  2. Or open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway.
  3. Or in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Ember
You only do this once — updates afterward don't re-prompt.

After install, Ember checks for new releases on launch and updates itself in the background — verified by checksum, with a rollback backup. You can turn that off in Settings → Performance.
